Issues And Impact
In Guatemala, many women use traditional stoves in their homes, burning several pieces of wood over an open flame. Unaware of the health concerns, they subject themselves and their children to a smoke-filled house, and potentially, respiratory and eye diseases.
In Guatemala, communities are building smokeless stoves that reduce 90-100 percent of smoke in homes. These stoves statistically decrease the amount of respiratory and eye diseases by 60-70 percent. Outreach has helped increase smokeless stoves in Guatemalan communities 15-fold.
