ABOUT US

Since 1979, Outreach International has facilitated community-led development to sustainably address poverty-related issues worldwide. We currently work in 10 countries around the world, applying our unique approach to sustainable change on a daily basis.

We invest in people. Our step-by-step process,“Participatory Human Development,” or PHDP, is centered on the development of community groups. Through long-term social integration, our process provides an organizational structure for community members to collectively identify, prioritize and collaborate on sustainable solutions to the poverty-related issues they face.

Our staff provides a framework for meaningful personal investment, and a context where everyone has a voice, a purpose, and a role in achieving (and replicating) successful, empowered outcomes.

Ending poverty is not possible without empowered communities’ authentic participation and personal investment in their own successful outcomes.

Our process requires a mutual investment of time and trust from all involved, achieved through deep consideration, sustained action and ongoing personal reflection.

Our commitment comes from our certainty that our work together makes the prospect of a more inclusive, joyful, empowered world not only possible, but inevitable.

Our Values

We believe chronic poverty is an injustice.

We believe in the inherent worth of all persons, and that individual and community empowerment are both crucial to breaking the cycle of chronic poverty.

We believe that lives should not be defined by insecurity, inequality or in contrast to abundance; that mere subsistence is unconscionable in the presence of available solutions.

We are maximally inclusive. Our work honors the value of all genders, cultures and faiths. Whatever we do, we do together, for the good of all.

Team Works

In the field or at HQ, Outreach staff shares more than a mission: We’re each passionate about implementing an effective, sustainable approach to resolving chronic poverty, and we’re all honored to have the opportunity to do so as part of the Outreach team.

While HQ staff thinks globally, our international staff works locally.

Whether behind a desk or up to our knees in mud, everyone on Team Outreach works to facilitate empowerment through long-term community integration, personal relationships and poverty-smashing expertise.

Everyone at Outreach inspires everyone else at Outreach. It’s great.

THE OUTREACH BLOG

Meet Aurelia

Every day, Aurelia and her husband Norberto have one job: Support their family. It’s a humble goal made ambitious by the number of seats around their dinner table — seven children, and two sets of in-laws with no other sources of income.

Meet Chev

For the first few years of her life, Chev's family collected their supply of potable water from an uncovered, unfiltered communal well. The reliability of the water’s source was countered by the ongoing uncertainty of its safety.

Meet Augustin

Since 1994, Augustin has worked as Outreach’s in-country representative in Haiti, overseeing the effectiveness and efficiency of all the moving parts that comprise our work there.
