Luz Dania is a marvel. Since 2006, she’s worked with Outreach’s Nicaraguan arm, Alcance Nicaragua, as an HDF [Human Development Facilitator] in communities throughout the country, with a dedication and tenacity so fierce that to know her is to be inspired by her.
She’s also a real sport, and volunteered (well, acquiesced) to provide all the A’s in our first Staff Q&A! Thanks, Luz!
Q: Country and job title?
A: I am from Nicaragua, and I work in Alcance Nicaragua as a Human Development Facilitator.
Q: Tell us about your hobbies!
A: Spending time with my daughter Sofia is the best hobby. I also enjoy dancing. My favorite rhythms for dancing are salsa, merengue, palo de mayo, and bachata. I also like to read.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: I don’t really have a favorite food, but I like food with a lot of picante, so hot food.
Q: Tell us about your family!
A: Enjoying my family is the best part of my day. Being with my daughter is a priceless privilege. My daughter is my refuge; I share with her my joys and achievements. Dania Sofia is my eternal companion; she is my love, and there are no words to describe how great it is.
My mother is the person with whom I can always count on, [through] the bad and the good. She is the pillar that strengthens my weaknesses. I have 10 brothers and sisters. My [love for them is] unconditional, and [they’re] always there when I need them most.
With my husband, I am in the construction phase of reaching a life together; it’s a long way, and sometimes tedious, but with patience we are [able to] overcome all challenges.
Q: What were some of your previous jobs before working for Outreach?
A: Before working with Alcance Nicaragua, I worked as a primary school teacher for four years.
Q: If you could have any superpower, which one would you choose?
A: I would like to have a photographic memory. I would love to remember with ease a certain situation or an image with precise details that would bring maximum realism. [In my work] with Alcance Nicaragua, I would like to have a photographic memory to remember and write so many extraordinary stories that I hear in the community or in my personal life.
