As all our work illustrates, Outreach is an organization familiar with concept of sustainability. It’s the core of how we measure our success in equipping and empowering our community partners to continue building, achieving, and learning from the experiences that lead them to happier, healthier lives.

“We think the idea of ‘Sustainable Good,’ training and helping people who need a hand up, rather than just charitable handouts, is a great one,” said congregant Darrel Loar, whose infectious enthusiasm is impossible to convey in print.

Sustainability is also the core of our own growth as a nonprofit, so that we might facilitate yet more intellectual, organizational, and personal prosperity in new areas of the globe. How? Well, beyond keeping staff turnover low and maintaining a fixed address, we’re blessed to have supporters who have been regular donors for decades. They believe in our work, share our goals, and honor us with their ongoing trust.

The fine folks who make up the Topeka Community of Christ congregation have been at Outreach’s side since 1982, contributing to the same sort of sustainable good that they themselves embody! Besides keeping the good going in their own backyards through their food pantry and supporting local nonprofits with donated time, money, materials and volunteers, their congregation has participated in annual fundraisers like CROP Walks, generating funds with every sponsored step forward. When circumstances led to an end to CROP Walks, they didn’t miss a step, immediately organizing a new fundraiser in conjunction with their annual Youth Fall Cookout, and sustaining their support of our work together.

We’re big fans of their new fundraiser, though we’re not sure can be entirely impartial: Their first annual Youth Hunger Walk raised money for Outreach, and kicked off what they consider to be their congregation’s newest tradition.

“We think the idea of ‘Sustainable Good,’ […] training and helping people who need a hand up, rather than just charitable handouts, is a great one,” said congregant Darrel Loar, whose infectious enthusiasm is impossible to convey in print.

All of us at Outreach are perpetually flattered, inspired, and grateful for our supporters and their amazing, selfless efforts on Outreach’s behalf. The good they inspire is boundless— directly benefitting our community partners and the world as a whole, to say nothing of how good they make everyone feel at Outreach HQ when we think about how fortunate we are to have them on our team. It goes on and on.
