Last Father’s Day, we shared the story of Wil (pictured above with his son), a cobbler from Outreach’s El Tunel community in Nicaragua. Facing the prospect of raising his three sons on an income hobbled by a small-business loan with a predatory interest rate, he entered into a community group facilitated by Outreach and obtained support from a low-interest, community-managed loan fund to invest in his business.
*Spoiler alert: Wil’s craftsmanship, combined with his commitment to his sons, resulted in a thriving small business that has provided them with a steady income ever since. We think it’s pretty telling that even his first name is an indication of his drive and aspirations to accomplish things. You’ll notice we’re not featuring any stories by men named “Won’t.”
In case you missed it last year, go read his full story here.
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Outreach International.
